THE PARK FOREST ART FAIR

On Saturday, September 18 and Sunday, September 19, the 55th annual Park Forest Art Fair will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in DownTown Park Forest on the Village Green.  It is open to the public, free of charge. The fair features approximately 100 artists who show works in a large variety of media. There will be jewelry, glass (blown and stained), fabric, wood, metal, watercolors, acrylics and more.

The artists come from all over the United States. Artists such as Wynn Hopkins, Phil Mundt and Flynn Sochon have returned to the fair for more than 30 years. This year, the Fair Committee is excited to announce that several new artists have passed the jurying process to be eligible to display their works. They include Rafael Martin from Florida, Nancy Steward and Darryl Pfau from Kalamazoo, MI and two Park Forest artists: Michael Weiss and Joe Pankowski.

The art fair is almost as old as the Village itself, having been started by members of an art club named the Park Forest Art Center just a few years after the incorporation of the Village.  It is, without a doubt, one of the best events on the annual calendar of the southern suburbs. First, it is a very high quality art fair. All participating artists have been juried in order to show their work. As a juried fair, it has the reputation of very high quality and worth traveling to see. Second, it is a very enjoyable art fair. Many Park Foresters and folks from the surrounding villages come to see and buy great art but it’s also a time to meet and greet old friends.

Don’t forget to bring the kids.  Besides exposing them to excellent art, they will have the opportunity to participate. The Youth art contest will be going on all during the fair as will a booth in which they can try their hands at tie dying. Music and stories are all part of the wonderful weekend.

The musical group, Patchouli, will be performing on Saturday and Kevin Wright and James Moats will be performing on Sunday near the flagpole on Main Street. Michelet Innocent, a musician from France, will be performing on Main Street across from the movie theater.

While visiting the fair, stop by the Tall Grass Gallery to see an exhibit of works by Tall Grass Gallery Artists.

For additional information, call the Tall Grass Gallery. It is open Tuesday through Saturday, 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. (708) 748-3377 or check the Tall Grass website at tallgrassarts.org.

See you at the Fair!
